Make Up Routine

When it comes to my everyday make-up routine I keep it pretty simple. I'd like to believe it's because I think that's all I really need, but mostly it's because I don't know how to do anything more and am too lazy or timid to try.

So here are the steps for my daily makeup routine:

1. Rinse face with luke-warm water & pat dry with towel
2. Merle Norman eyebrow powder to fill in my brows
3. MAC "Prism" blush/bronzer across my cheekbones, sides of forehead, & nose
4. Chap-stick + tinted gloss (usually bertz-bees & whatever is on sale)
5. Mascara (whatever is on sale at the grocery store when I run out)
6. Sometimes I use my Loreal cover up stick for blemishes & under my eyes, but only when I really feel I need it

Yep, that's it.
No, I didn't skip a step.
No, I didn't leave anything out.

I am a true believer in "less is more," and I really hate the way "a lot" of make up feels on my face, so I don't feel compelled to change up the extent of my regular routine. That being said, I do wish that I had a little something extra to make myself stand out, without really masking myself.

Sunday Fashion Fun-Day: Baby Shower Heat

Last weekend my second oldest sister, Leigh, threw a surprise baby shower for my oldest sister, Christina (she's due in October!)!

It was hosted at my Auntie Nandi's house, and although it was sweltering hot, especially with 30+ people all gathered together (Christina has an amazing group of love and support!), I was quite pleased with my outfit choice for the occasion.

I wore my black shorts and a "wide arm" block colored T-shirt (both from Winners, of course!). Although everyone else was a bit more dressed up than I was (most people wore sun dresses), I felt like I still had a good enough combo of casual, cute, and most importantly COMFORTABLE!  The wide arms of my tshirt was perfection to avoid showing too much sweat, and anytime I was in the sunshine or by a fan, it let the breeze through.

It was also a must that I wear my hair up (eventhough I really wanted to curl it down) in order to help manage the heat overload. Again,  it may have looked a bit more on the casual side, but comfort was a way bigger priority!

How do you handle the heat when dressing up?

Sunday Fashion Fun-Day: Basics!

Last weekend we went to two BBQs: a 50th birthday party for Mark's boss, and a graduation party for my cousin. Both events were relatively casual (some of the older folks dressed up a wee bit nicer for the 50th birthday party), so the dress code was pretty relaxed.

I had to work both days so honestly by the time I got home and had to get ready, I was in no mood to put effort into looking anywhere next to decent. That being said, I decided to just keep it simple and go back to the basics: Jeans and a tank.

I went with my boyfriend fit Mavi jeans (which are a little snugger than most boyfriend fits - thanks to my large bottom half), and my black PINK T-back tank top. I paired it with just some slip on flip flops ($6 Roxy brand from Winners), and my new open knit cardigan from Rip Curl and that seemed to do the trick. It was one of the rare times I pulled off my favorite look: "look how cute you look and you didn't even have to try!" I was ready in a total of about 30 minutes (including shower time and lint rolling), and I got complimented twice of my outfit - BONUS!

When in doubt, stick with the basics, they will never fail you!

Sunday Fashion Fun-Day: Celebrating!

I already featured this dress once but I couldn't help but feature it again, this time all dolled up!

Last weekend we attended the wedding of Josh (Mark's childhood friend) and Ashley at the Whonnock Lake Centre in Maple Ridge. It was a beautiful venue, with a beautiful couple, celebrating a beautiful endeavor.

I wore my new Monk & Lou dress from Plenty with a open knit cardigan from Rip Curl. I dressed it up with my glittery Guess sandals and then some silver jewelry. It was pretty effortless, if I do say so myself!

Mark wore his grey Volcom dress pants with a lilac button up from Le Chateau, which happened to be on sale for $39.95.  I must admit he was looking quite dapper (although he always cleans up nice ;))!

We had a wonderful time at the wedding - lately his friends' weddings seem to feel more like reunions than anything else, simply because it's not very often that every gets together anymore these days (everyone has their own busy lives going on).

Throughout the night we all had some drinks, ate some amazing food, cheers-ed to the bride and groom, and of course danced the night away! We even got to enjoy the calm of the lake in the late evening, as the venue had a dock right out to the water, it was perfection!

Do you have any weddings aka reunions to attend this summer?

Sunday Fashion Fun-Day: New Dress

I have recently discovered what might now be my new favorite store: Plenty

My girlfriend Vanessa and I went shopping a few weeks ago at Metrotown and she introduced me to this delightful little boutique.

It was one of those stores where pretty much everything I picked up I just had to try on! So many of the items were so simple yet they had a unique little flavor. The big downside of this store though was that everything is a wee bit on the higher price range so sadly I had to pick and choose a favorite instead of getting absolutely everything! Quality over quantity is something I am getting more and more on board with these days.

This dress is what I ended up with:

It's Monk and Lou, 100% polyester, and falls just so, that it is literally effortless to wear. It is a teency bit wide in the underarm area (I am pretty small chested) but regardless this is still the most comfortable dress I have ever owned. Also, it's sooooo versatile. I could wear it as is-super simple, with a jean jacket and sneakers-cute/casual, or with some heels and glamorons jewelry for an evening look (I plan on wearing it to an upcoming wedding)! The possibilities are endless!

I love finding new treasures and this is one that will be long lasting in my closet. I have no doubts it will stand the test of time!

Changes? Not really.

I dug up this special little gem the other day, and well,  I couldn't resist sharing simply because it just goes to show that although I have changed, and grown in a million ways since this photo, I am also still very much the same.

The picture is from a camping trip in 2003-2004 ish that my family took with another family of friends at the time.

I'm holding the first volleyball I ever owned, and although we were camping in the photo, it is still my "go-to" style to wear sweats and a t-shirt on a daily basis (whether im at home or heading out).

You will notice that my hair was significantly longer back then but I am currently in the midst of growing it back out. I will however, try to do a better job maintaining it (although I'm pretty sure in the photo I had just come out of the water).

I doubt I will ever drastically change my desire to lounge in sweats (jeans and tights are strictly for leaving the house), and never ever ever will I lose my passion for volleyball. I swear volleyball and sweatpants are defining qualities to my character.

What have you hung on to from your past?

5 x Jealousy

I constantly find myself rationally, but also often irrationally, jealous of other people. Here are just five of the reasons why (trust me, there are plenty more):

Bodies
I believe anyone that has a somewhat "fit" body, automatically has a better body than me. I feel severe urges of jealousy when I see people with toned arms, flat tummys, slender legs, or more capable muscles (i.e. they can do something I cannot). I wish I had the mental and physical discipline that they do in order to gain and maintain their physique.

Style (clothing, hair, and sometimes makeup)
My favorite look is the "look how cute you look, and you didn't even have to try!" however, this is something that I am next to never able to achieve, because even if I end up with a look that is complementary, it is never effortless. It usually takes hours of tossing clothes in and out of my closet, multiple attempts at doing and re-doing my hair until it falls just so, and as far as makeup goes, although I much prefer a subtle, simple look (mascara, tiny bit of blush, and lip-gloss), sometimes I can't even manage to get that right on the first try.

Confidence
I don't believe I will ever get to point where I can go an entire day without doubting myself at least once at some point throughout an entire day. I believe people with the right amount of confidence (not arrogance), are the most beautiful.

Home
I feel so envious of people that can somehow manage to afford to purchase their own home in today's market, simple as that. I want to own a small, basic home, with a decent size yard, but I know it is just so far away right now.

Travel Experience
I have been to the following places: Vanderhoof, San Francisco, Merrit, Osoyoos, Kamloops, Oahu Hawaii, Oregon, Washington State, Tofino, Sunshine Coast, San Jose Del Cabo Mexico. I believe most people have been to more places than I and I am jealous that they have seen and experienced more things than me. I want the relaxation and adventure that comes along with travelling to new places.

Jealousy can be a tricky thing. Although most times it has negative connotations associated with it (see all irrationality above), I also do strongly believe that it can be a positive motivating tool --> if used carefully. Focus on letting the jealousy give you ideas and innovation on where you want to go, or how to improve your life instead of letting it control or consume you.

Sunday Fashion Funday: Packing

I am a terrible packer!

Correction: I am an excellent packer of items, but a terrible chooser of items needing to pack.

What I'm slowly learning from all you fashionstas (thank god for Pinterest) is to prepare outfits based on interchangeable items!

So here is my most recent attempt at packing for a 7 day all inclusive in Cabo, Mexico:
(3 dressy evening/dinner outfits)
(3 casual/daytime outfits)

(swimsuit cover ups - I ditched the pink one last minute)

(Casual shoulder protection, & evening dressing sweater)
Last minute I did also end up adding an extra tank top plus some board shorts (to play volleyball in) and then, of course, I also brought the usual swimsuits, undergarments, some sweats to lounge in.

For shoes I went with a casual beach flip flop, a dressy strappy sandal, a slip on sneaker, and then traveled in a pair of light runners.

So there you have it, my beachy, all inclusive, vacation fashion!
How do you pack best?

Sunday Fashion Fun-Day: High Tea

Yesterday I had a girls afternoon at The Little White House in Fort Langley! Some co-workers and I got together for high tea and it was delicious! If you've never been before, I highly recommend it! It was such a treat and made me feel like I was some vintage high class lady!

I wore my LBD from Victoria Secret and paired it with my knee high brown boots and my blue/grey heavy knit sweater! It was the perfect combo of classic chic with a modern comfort! All the gals looked so great tho - it was fun to see everyone out of their work scrubs and in real people clothes.
(My LBD from Victoria Secret)

(From left to right: Cassondra, Patricia, Jen L., Jenn C., Jody, & me)
We got these cute little trays loaded with an assortment of goodies. We got croissants, sausage pastry, roasted pecans, scones, macaroons, mini cupcake, etc. Although the portions weren't huge, it was still plenty of food and the way they had it layered in the trays made you take the time to appreciate every little item!

Sunday Fashion Fun-Day: Vance Joy

On Wednesday my friend, Vanessa, and I went downtown to the Orpheum Theatre where we got to see Vance Joy! My third concert of my entire life! It was a total blast. I had no idea what to expect going in to it but, the music was right up my alley! By far this has been my favorite concert to date!

Here's my outfit plus some more photos from the night:

Sunday Fashion Fun-Day: Cozy Winter Wear

So far this Winter I haven't had much opportunity to get dressed up in trendy/cozy attire. I've mostly been spending the cold weather days in scrubs for work,  fitness clothes for working out/veebs, and sweats for lounging and taking the dog out. However, I did get the chance over the holidays to cozy myself in some somewhat fashion forward attire.

Here are my outfits from the holiday festivities:
(From left to right: Stu, Dianna, Ryan, Mark, & myself)
For Christmas Eve, it's hard to tell from the picture, but I had on my oversized black slouchy sweater with my bootcut Guess jeans and my moccasins (all from Winners).

(Christmas Day & New Years Day)
On Christmas Day I wore black Guess skinnies (from Winners), a plain white tank layered with a maroon beater (both from Bootlegger), and my draped navy Sandwich sweater (from Get Dressed) and paired it with my brown booties (from Payless - also worn on my wedding day).

On New Years Day (also my grandparents anniversary) I wore black tights (from Garage), a navy dress (from Winners), my boyfriend button up (from Bootlegger), my leopard scarf (can't remember where from), and my knee high brown boots (from Spring).

I behaved this year and didn't buy myself anything new over the holidays, so everything in the photos is at least a year old (the navy dress might be a little less than a year, but I can't remember for certain).

Did you dress up much this holiday season?

P.s. here's Mark being completely ridiculous...of course!

Sunday Fashion Fun-Day: Workout Edition

Not much of a fashion post today simply because, as of late, I've been wearing nothing but scrubs at work and workout clothes at home, but I thought I'd share anyway!

You'd think I'd have some cozy, winterwonderland look that I've been rocking lately, but I haven't been out socially much this month, so there hasn't been much opportunity to get bundled up.

Anyway, as far as the "fashion" is concerned, here are some examples of the workout outfits I've been living in:

(August 7, November 16, November 21, & December 9, 2015)

(October 30, November 24, November 25, & December 8, 2015)

I wear a variety of brands (a lot of my finds are sale items at Winners) but I definitely feel that some are way more comfortable than others depending on the particular activity I'm doing.

I'd also like to take a moment to relish in the fact that this post also kind of serves as a fitness progress update!  At the end of June 2015 I broke my foot, and then broke it again July 31, 2015. I wasn't allowed to get active again until September 25, 2015, and now here I am, two and a half months of hard work after recovering from a broken foot, and I am really starting to love and appreciate what my body is capable of.

What's your go-to attire these days?

Ladies Night Fashion Show

Yesterday was my beautiful mom's birthday!!

To celebrate we went to Get Dressed (a little boutique my sister, Dianna, used to work at in North Van), where my mom and Dianna got to be part of a mini fashion show.

The store was having a promotional event with various gift bag giveaways (by donation) as well as 20% off the entire store. The event was to support mental illness awareness.

Surprisingly, even with all our busy schedules, myself, all three of my sisters, my mom, and one of my aunts were all free on the same night and able to go to the event. It was a night filled with gossip, chaos, glamour, accessories, and of course spending some $ on fashion!

As a present for my mom, we let her pick out a couple items from the store (after the fashion show chaos was over) and we bought them for her. But honestly it was just nice to spend quality time with all the gals. Of course checking out all the name brand fashion doesn't hurt though either!

The store carries some pretty high fashion name brands: Wildfox, Sandwich, James Perse, etc. (all of which are brands I had never heard of until my sister introduced me to them). I did my best to resist all the beautiful, extremely high priced, temptation (I'm on a very strict budget right now) so I only ended up purchasing one item: the red wine/rust color graphic long sleeve t-shirt (see below). Its good hYOUman - $69 (after the 20% discount).

Top: All of us with our goodies, from left to right - Christina, me, Mom, Leigh, Nandi, Dianna

Right: The store was completely packed!

Top Left: The outfit I chose to wear to the event
Bottom Left: The new "good hYOUman" shirt I bought

After the long evening of shopping we finally grabbed a bite to eat at the Two Lions pub across the way. Again, it was filled with good food, easy conversation, and lots of laughter! I don't think anyone could have asked for a better way to spend my mom's birthday!

Steel Panther!

Fun fact about myself: I have only ever attended two concerts in my life time, one of which took place only two weeks ago.

That's right, about ten years ago the guy I was interested in at the time took me to I think it was GM Place (now Rogers Arena) to see....to be honest, I can't even remember the name of the band. I do remember however that we went to Olive Garden for dinner before hand, and he laughed at me for my outfit of jeans, t-shirt, and cardigan, meanwhile he was wearing skin tight leather pants. We had seats way high up and off to the side, could barely see anything, and I basically just stood there while he sung along to pretty much every single song. Needless to say, not the greatest concert going experience, but it also wasn't the worst either. I just knew nothing about the band, so it was kind of tough to get captivated.

Ever since then I've never been much inclined to go to other concerts. It's always seemed like a lot of money for a very loud, crowded, impersonal experience.

Two weeks ago though I had a much more pleasant concert-going experience. Mark's co-workers invited us to the Steel Panther concert at the Hard Rock Casino in Coquitlam. Mark had seen them once previously when they were here in Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics and of course loooooooves their music so at the very least I knew a bit about them as a band. To be honest, I was hesitant about going in the first place (I just wasn't sure it was going to be my thing), and it didn't help that Mark and I happened to get in a fight earlier that morning, but it ended up being a totally fun night!

If you don't know anything about Steel Panther, let me give you a brief rundown. They are a "glam-rock" band, that basically plays up the whole idea of the "rock n roll" lifestyle. Their lyrics are incredibly vulgar and yet incredible hilarious!

I loved that the venue was small (we were standing right on the main floor) because it seemed like a much more intimate/personal experience. And, as much as I hate to admit this, I knew lots of the lyrics to plenty of the songs (thanks to Mark for originally introducing me to them back in 2010) so I was able to sing along and even "bop along" with them and the crowd!

As vulgar and profane as the lyrics are, the band has full entertainment value, especially their lead guitarist, Satchel! They all play up their personas so much and totally feed into and off of the crowd! I would highly recommend going to see them, that is, if you're not easily offended by profane language and topics!

Here are a couple photos from the night (sorry for the poor quality):
(My outfit: Jean's,  grey t-shirt, leather jacket, and I paired it with black leather boots)
STEEL PANTHER
(Mark and I at the Hard Rock Casino watching Steel Panther)

As well as a couple short video clips:

Yes, you heard correctly: "show me your boobies", and "my cock is community property"!

Anyway, after seeing Steel Panther in a small, intimate venue, I am much more inclined to find other local concerts to attend!

What concerts have you seen?
-Linds

P.s.: I just remembered the name of the band I saw first: Velvet Revolver. I think they were popular at the time, I just knew nothing about them.

MIA...again!

It seems I went kind of MIA again. Hmm...how did that happen?

I haven't posted in about 3 weeks. The last time I went that long without posting was between June and July, shortly after I broke my foot.  Hopefully this doesn't become a regular occurrence, because I have to admit I've really grown fond of blogging. As much as I love all the other things I do in my life, sometimes it's really nice just to sit down and write.

So enough of that mushy stuff, what has kept me MIA the last few weeks you ask? Well here's an update:

Fashion:
Here is my favorite purchase from the summer:

It's from Aritzia. Super easy to wear, can easily dress it up or down, and I look forward to pairing it with tights and boots in the winter.

Work:
I don't think I've mentioned this yet, but I took a new temporary position at work so I am no longer doing my terrible night shifts. I now work a mostly day shift schedule, which has been great for my mental health, but honestly not so great for my physical health (I'm not working out nearly as consistently as I was before).

Fitness:
In the last month of being on orders for "no high impact" because of my broken foot, I gained a full 10lbs, yep, you heard me, 10lbs! About three weeks ago I got the okay to start back up with my usual routine, and so far I have shed about 5lbs. I still have another 5lbs to get back to what I was, and another 5lbs after that to get to my target, but honestly it just feels good to be sweating and jumping and running, etc.
(Looking sweaty after a workout)

Outdoors:
Summer is officially over here in Canada, however in the last week we have had a few beautiful sunshiny days so I'm just trying to soak the last little bit of it up by going for as many walks as possible on my days off, and by taking Capt'n out to the dog park.

Pets:
I know I didn't mention this when it first happened because, honestly, I was devastated. But, I think now I am ready to talk about it. Our 6ish year old cat, Bear, has passed away. It was an abrupt and scary situation. He got way to sick way to fast, and sadly, Mark and I made the tough decision to put him down instead of making him suffer. He is forever in our hearts and will be dearly missed. My heart aches for him everyday.

The other pets, Mouse and Capt'n, had a rough time trying to cope for the first few days after Bear passed, but I think it actually ended up bringing the two of them closer, because now from time to time I will find them sleeping side by side or rubbing up against each other - something that would have never happened before.
Oh, also, I think Capt'n is getting bigger.

And finally....
Volleyball:
My co-ed 6s league in Abbotsford started up, and so far we haven't moved up pools yet, but I'm optimistic about our team.
In even bigger news though, I made the brave move of taking over my Womens 6s Volleyball League. It's been a long time since I've been in charge of something (I had to get in touch with all the teams to ensure everyone was still playing, I had to contact a new school and coordinate timing, I had to collect payment and waivers from all players, write up the schedule, make sure we had balls, etc.), but honestly it was so much fun, and the ladies were so appreciative of what I had worked out so it felt great to get some credit for my time and hard work. As intimidating as it was, taking over a project like this really reminded me how much I enjoy being in the gym. I really do think I want to pursue some sort of endeavor where I run a gym/fitness/volleyball facility. Mark came to help me out last night (set up nets, record scores, etc.) and honestly it was a lot of fun to be working on a little project like that together. I'm excited for what the future holds for us!

Well, that's all for today. Just a little update on the life I've been leading lately.

Sunday Fashion Funday: Summer Time!

It seems to happen every year that I sort of end up having a "go-to" outfit for pretty much each season. You know, that one outfit combo that you always have in the back of your head in case you need to just quickly throw something together in a moments notice. That outfit that you know always makes you feel good when you put it on. That outfit that someone always seems to compliment one aspect of no matter how many times you wear it.

Well I thought I would share with you my 2015 go-to summer outfit :

-Dark wash jean shorts (American Eagle)
-Double arrow tank (Sportchek)
-Pinstripe collared button up (old)

I love this outfit because the jean shorts and tank are super easy to wear, the pinstripe button up gives it a kind of loungey/boyfriend feel, but the dark wash jeans paired with the right shoe can easily make it a more girly/dressy look. I can wear this outfit to BBQs, to the beach, to a restaurant, to family dinners, the options are endless, and if necessary, it's easy to interchange a different sweater or shoe to just give it a slightly different feel. Plus of course the options are endless for jewelry/accessories!

Sunday Fashion Fun-Day: Wedding!

This weekend one of Mark's high school friends tied the knot! We got the pleasure of attending the beautiful wedding! The ceremony was at Peace Portal Alliance Church, and the reception was held at West Langley Hall. It was just a wonderful day!

Honestly though, as much as we enjoyed being there for the actual wedding aspect, it felt to everyone like more of a reunion! Not a lot of Marks friends always get together, especially everyone in one place at one time, so it was really nice that so many were able to make it out to this event and we all got to celebrate the day together, and of course, we were all looking sharp in our best dressed attire!

Here are some photos for the day:
(The Group)
(The guys)

(The gals)

The couples:
(Me & Mark)

(Steve & Dani)
(Laura & Matt)
(Rob & Bridget)
All in all I have to say everyone was looking pretty sharp! Obviously I don't know where everyone else got their items, but for Mark and I here are the details:

Me:
-Dress: Auritzia
-Blazer: Bootlegger (old)
-Shoes: Spring
-Necklaces: Anthropologie & unknown (old)
-Earrings: Ardene (old)
-Bracelet: Gift

Mark:
-Pants: Extreme (old)
-Shirt: Le Chateau (old)
-Vest: Le Chateau (old)
-Shoes: Spring
-Tie: Winners (old)

Do you love getting dressed up for special events, or absolutely dread it? I find I always have a hard time deciding what to wear, but then I usually end up loving the feeling of being all dolled up!
